Drug enforcement troopers say they made two marijuana busts last week. Drug enforcement Troopers based in Bethel arrested a man for allegedly trying to bring marijuana into Nunapitchuk.

The Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team, or WAANT, reports that on September 24th, they contacted 25-year-old Jackie Nicholas of Nunapitchuk who had just arrived in Bethel from Anchorage.

WAANT says Nicholas was carrying three-point-five (3.5) ounces of marijuana in his carry on bag. The marijuana was seized, and officers arrested Nicholas and remanded him to YKCC. The pot had a street value of approximately $4-thousand-950-dollars.

Then last Thursday the 27th, WAANT officers were alerted to suspicious packages going through the postal service here in Bethel. The boxes were addressed to a Chevak resident. WAANT says they found and seized approximately four-ounces of marijuana among groceries. There were also numerous baggies, which officers say suggest distribution. WAANT says a suspect has been identified and their investigation continues. The marijuana had a street value of about $5-thousand-650-dollars.
