Rohn Buser matching championship pace into Kalskag

by Mark Arehart on January 19, 2013

A minute ahead of the pace he set last year, defending champion Rohn Buser, trotted into Kalskag to take his mandatory six-hour break. 16 other teams have followed Buser into the checkpoint, with rookie Joar Leifseth Ulsom coming in second. Ulsom was followed by eight-time winner Jeff king, Josh Cadzow and Tony Browning. Local musher Mike Williams Jr. came in hot on their heels in the sixth position. Other local mushers to arrive are: Richie Diehl in eight place, Pete Kaiser in 11th place, Mike Williams Sr. in 16th place and Isaac Underwood in 17th. Louie Ambrose has not yet checked into Kalskag. It has been reported that he lost the trail early in the race and lost quite a bit of time.
