2011 Yukegtaaraat ‘People of the Year’ honorees will be announced Wednesday morning, March 30th, during TWC’s monthly Peacetalk radio show beginning at 11 am. Be sure to tune in for this exciting announcement along with information on the Yukegtaaraat banquet.

The Red Devil Mine is the worst recorded mercury polluter in Alaska. The Bureau of Land Management is telling hunters and fishers on the Kuskokwim River to stay away from the site. Now biologists are looking for help as they craft a comprehensive plan to clean harmful contaminants.

Researchers investigating one of the biggest archeological finds in the YK Delta are concerned that a lack of funding may curtail research into the area. The site is called Nunalleq, Yup’ik for “old village site”. Coastal erosion has already consumed the first excavation site. Now archeologists hope to survey the entire village, before it’s gone.
