Nearly 3/4 of a pound of marijuana was confiscated at a Bethel air carrier on May 19th.

Alaska State Troopers’ Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team, or WAANT, reports that officers intercepted 10 ounces of marijuana from a male traveler’s backpack.

The unidentified suspect had just flown to Bethel from Anchorage.

He is charged with misconduct involving a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a class c felony.

Many of Bethel’s roads can become clouded with dust during this time of the year. At the last Bethel City Council Meeting, one resident came before the council to talk about it.

The Orutsararmiut Native Council has began it’s annual giveaway of potato seeds. Anyone is welcome to help themselves to the 1,500 pound crop. This year’s selection boasts more variety than in years past.

The Emmonak Women’s Shelter, Alaska’s only center for abused women situated in a village, has been open for 34 years. It’s often the only option for women trying to escape violence.
