Bethel council talks armory

While the fate of the old National Guard Armory still hangs in the balance, many are wondering who will pay to run the building if it stays open. The Bethel City Council discussed that very topic at its last regular meeting.

The 20 villages that form the Coastal Villages Region Fund (CVRF) have started a public campaign aimed at increasing their fishing allocations. Changing how much fish CVRF can take would require Congress amending the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. CVRF is hoping there is enough support to make it happen.

The Art Guild’s auction in Bethel Sept. 22 was a success, according to Reyne Athanas, one of the organizers. The non-profit group raised over $10,000. A live auction of 20 steel salmon and ravens brought in $8,280 and the silent auction raised $1,741.
