Although it’s nearly December there is a group of people in the region who are focused on salmon, specifically the future of the King salmon run on the Kuskokwim River. The Kuskokwim River Salmon Management Group met today (Friday) in Bethel. The group is made up of representatives up and down the river. Also at the table were several state and federal managers. They were discussing the State’s new recommendation to change the King salmon escapement goals or the amount of fish needed to spawn for the run to be sustainable.

The Talk Line trio was back in KYUK’s studios again this week to discuss a wide spectrum of topics from many callers in the YK Delta. The program was filled with calls discussing driver and pedestrian safety, upcoming Chinook management plans, and the hot topic from this week’s City Council meeting, the newly proposed tobacco tax. Upcoming Bethel events were also brought to the table and many upcoming holiday events were shared. Check out the full recorded show below.

Postmaster Alan Murphy addresses the yellow slip issue at a Bethel Chamber of Commerce meeting.

For many in Bethel, yellow slips are a sign of things to come, packages from friends or family, goods bought online or basically any kind of mail too big to fit in a PO Box.

Caribou hunting is open in Unit 18 in the Y-K Delta. Hunters can take two caribou but only one can be a bull and only one can be taken between August 1 and January 31. While bag limits are the same as last year, some of the language surrounding how hunters are able to take caribou has changed.
