3 candidates, 3 seats for Bethel city council

by Angela Denning-Barnes on August 20, 2012

Today was the deadline to file for a seat on the Bethel city council and three people have declared their intentions to run. There are three, 2-year seats up for grabs in the October municipal election. The seats of Mayor Joe Klejka and Council Members Kent Harding and Eric Whitney expire.

As of the 4 p.m. deadline, Whitney and Klejka had both filed paperwork for re-election but Kent Harding had not. The only other person to declare candidacy was Sharon Sigmon who ran against Whitney and Klejka last year.

To run for Bethel city council, a person has to be at least 18 years of age, a qualified voter of Alaska; and must have resided within the city of Bethel for at least one year immediately before filing.

The municipal election will be October 2.
