Alakanuk man safe after spending cold night outside

by Ben Matheson on December 2, 2013

An Alakanuk man is safe after spending the night cold and wet along the coast. Bethel search and rescue reports that Gus Lee had traveled Saturday to check his blackfish traps but did not return.

Three search and rescue volunteers went out in the night but were unable to locate Lee. Three full search crews went out Sunday to search with support from a trooper aircraft. They found Lee near the coast in a cold and wet condition. He had gotten disoriented and stuck. Crews brought him to Alakanuk and he is reported to be in fine shape.
