A teenager in Alakanuk suffered a gunshot wound when his firearm went off as he was walking back from a hunting trip, Feb 6.
According to Alaska State Troopers, the 15-year-old male was shot in the left calf by what is believed to be a .22 caliber firearm. Troopers were notified of the incident the following day at 11 a.m.
The teenager was flown to Bethel for medical treatment. They say his injury was minor and he has since been released from the hospital.
Troopers from St. Mary’s couldn’t respond to the village until Saturday because of high winds and lack of air service.
