Alcohol sent from California seized

by Sophie Evan on October 9, 2012

The Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team, or WAANT, have intercepted yet another illegal shipment of alcohol, this time all the way from California.

WAANT investigators say they were called to one of the post offices in Anchorage last Thursday, October 4th. A suspicious package was being mailed from California to Chefornak. WAANT reports that the sender is a minor, who is under 21-years old, and the recipient an adult male. The mail parcel was opened where investigators found four bottles of distilled spirits.

WAANT says charges of Importation of Alcohol and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor are being forwarded to the Office of Special Prosecutions.

Chefornak is a local option community where the community voted to ban the importation and sale of alcoholic beverages.
