Alaska State Troopers have identified the body that was found in Quinhagak Monday afternoon as that of 25-year-old Lisa Johnson. She had been a missing person since February 2, when it was reported to the Department of Public Safety’s Missing Persons Clearinghouse.

Alaska State Troopers from Bethel are investigating a body found Monday afternoon in Quinhagak. Troopers have secured the surrounding area and are working with investigators with the Alaska Bureau of Investigation.

Local volunteers with the Bethel Search and Rescue headed out on the Kuskokwim River Saturday to check ice depths near town. They found a couple of spots with just a few inches of ice. All areas were less than three feet thick. The thinnest area of concern was the open hole area at Joe Pete’s fish camp which is three inches or less in the middle with small open holes still showing.

A Hooper Bay man was arrested for a DUI after allegedly flipping his snow machine. According the Alaska State Troopers who investigated the incident, 34-year-old Edgar I.K. Smith flipped the machine, throwing him and another man off. The incident happened on January 25.
