The Kuskokwim breakup ice front moved about 20 miles downriver Tuesday. Wary of possible flooding, the village of Napaskiak evacuated 67 individuals to Bethel Tuesday evening as a precautionary measure. The Kuskokwim Ice Classics Tripod had been shifting around all day Tuesday, even toppling over at one point, but the wire did not officially trip until 8:43 p.m. The winner is Peggy Nerby-Crow of Bethel winning $3,530.00, according to Bethel Community Services Foundation, a non-profit that organizes the event.
The annual Breakup Bash will happen tonight starting at 5 p.m. on the riverfront near First National Bank. Free music and hotdogs for everyone.
