A 21-year-old Native male was contacted August 2 at a local air carrier in Bethel suspected of smuggling alcohol into the village of Kipnuk which is a dry community. Investigation revealed that seven bottles of R & R whiskey were seized from his person.

Fire crews battling the Can Creek Fire near the Kuskokwim Village of Lime Village are getting an assist from the skies. Incident Commander Jay Wattenbarger tells KYUK’s John Active that favorable weather may dampen the long enduring blaze.

Several communities are searching for two missing men from two Yukon River villages. Bethel Search and Rescue report that Ray Marsh of Marshall and Harvey Pitka Jr. of Russian Mission were traveling from Akiachak to Marshal. They left Thursday at 4 a.m.

A house fire broke out in the early morning hours March 4 on 2nd Road Housing. No one was hurt. The call came into the Bethel Fire Department at 5:43 a.m. Volunteer Bethel Fire Fighters responded to 114 B Atsaq Street.

Phillip “Ossie” Kairaiuak grew up in Chefornak around Yuraq or Eskimo dancing. Now, he leads the Atcilquq dance group in Anchorage. At last week-end’s Dance Festival in Chevak he entertained the crowd with his group and talked to KYUK about how Yuraq helps him and others feel closer to home.
