The sixth was the first Friday of February, which means that Talk Line was a 90-minute program; as it will continue to be on the first Friday of every month.

This week a number of callers brought up a recent rash of burglaries and crimes, taxation on tobacco, the overcrowding of  jails, alcohol and marijuana regulations, and the ever popular topic of taxi drivers not following traffic laws.

The boys and girls varsity basketball teams from Bethel Regional High School wrapped up their tournament action on Saturday evening against the Nanooks of Nome.

The Lady Warriors were first up on the court, and they jumped out to a dominating first half lead of 20 to 5. The Lady Nanooks would claw their way back into the game and would close that gap to 6 points at one point in the third quarter. The Lady Warriors would eventually stretch the lead back out and would finish with a 38-22 victory.

This edition of Talk Line focuses on a proposed boycott of a local grocery retailer. Several callers focus in on the pros and cons of this boycott.

Thoughts are also expressed about the transfer of Calista shares, and possible tier-designations of future shares.

Both the boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball squads from Bethel Regional High School won in their opening games of the 2015 Donlin Gold Tournament on Thursday night at BRHS. Both teams played against the Wolfpack of Unalakleet, a familiar 1A opponent, and both teams cruised to quality victories.

IMG_2519The NFL’s recent ‘Deflategate’ controversy, and the Busers’ K300 ‘Church Slough shortcut’ were brought up by a number of different callers on this program. Overall congratulations were given to Pete Kaiser, and additional “thanks” were given to the Kuskokwim 300 Race Committee and it’s volunteers.

Johnnie Evan of Tuntutuliak won this year’s Akiak Dash.  The 65-mile sprint race is always a thriller for race fans who enjoy the mass start at the beginning to the close finishes.
