Over 120 Alaska Army National Guard Soldiers with the B or Bravo Company, based out of Bethel, were honored at a welcome home ceremony this weekend in Anchorage. The National Guardsmen from the 1-143rd Infantry Airborne Regiment returned home in November after a year-long deployment to Afghanistan.

While overseas, the Alaska Guardsmen provided security forces for provincial reconstruction teams, operating in dangerous areas rebuilding infrastructure and providing healthcare.

The Association of Village Council Presidents Regional Housing Authority celebrated the grand opening of its regional offices in Bethel in time for Christmas on Friday morning. The new offices were built using Federal stimulus funds available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
