Cup’ik/Yup’ik military officer Major Wayne Don was recently promoted again in the Alaska Army National Guard. He is now Lieutenant Colonel Wayne Don, the executive officer for 297th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade in Alaska.

Lower Kuskokwim School District Superintendant Gary Baldwin is planning to retire this spring. He submitted his resignation to the LKSD School Board at its last regular meeting earlier this month. The School District has now begun a nationwide search for Baldwin’s replacement.

Four more local nursing students are graduating from the University of Alaska Anchorage and Kuskokwim Campus partnership Nursing program. Graduation ceremonies for the four new nurses will be at the Cultural Center Friday evening.

The Yukon Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital is one of 4 hospitals in Alaska being penalized by the federal Medicare program for having too many readmissions per patient within a short period of time. This is an effort by Medicare to encourage higher quality treatment the first time around, such as making sure Medicare patients are clear on the follow-up care they need after a hospital admission.

Small business in the Y-K Delta impacted by the 2012 Alaska Chinook Salmon Fishery disaster are now eligible for federal disaster loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration. This program follows a disaster declaration made by the S-B-A on Friday.
