This year, they selected 13 finalists from Bethel, Mountain Village, Marshall and Emmonak.
The ‘Best in the West’ competition is an opportunity for small businesses in the Y-K Delta to win start-up funds and is intended to promote jobs and economic stability in the region.
Finalists will now work on writing business plans at workshops this week. They’re required to attend business planning workshops at the cultural today (Wed. 7/17) at 5:30pm and Saturday (7/19) at 10am. Melissa Houston from the University of Alaska Center for Economic Development will present. The workshops are open to the public.
The grassroots effort to support local entrepreneurs is in its sixth year. Awards range from $2,000 to $5,000.
