Bethel boy found after Halloween search effort

by Angela Denning-Barnes on November 1, 2011

The search for an 8-year-old Bethel boy missing Monday night ended successfully. He was eventually found hiding in the AC store, but that was after a long search effort by Bethel police, fire department staff, and search and rescue volunteers.

The boy was reported missing from the Pentecostal Church area at approx 8:30 p.m. The child was not wearing a coat at the time and had supposedly gone to the car to wait for his father. When the father went to his car only a few minutes later, the child was not there. Officers searched the church area to no avail. The family said other search areas could include Dull Lake and AC store area and those areas were also searched, but the child was not found.

Search and Rescue and additional officers were notified and responded. Search volunteers, police, and fire units used thermal imaging to check areas of known friends and family. Upon further inspection of the AC store, employees began a tape review of the store security cameras and saw the boy entering the building. Officers and store staff began another search of the store and found the 8-year-old hiding there. The juvenile was released to his father.

Bethel police want to thank Search and Rescue, the Fire Department, and AC store manager David Hicks for help in the search effort.
