Bethel fire fighters raise over $7,500 for charity

by Angela Denning-Barnes on October 1, 2013

The Bethel Fire Department and Volunteer Emergency Services Association held boots out at Watson’s Corner this past weekend and raised over $7,500 for the charity Muscular Dystrophy Association.

It was the first time the local department participated in the nationwide “Fill the Boot” program. A total of 17 fire fighters and EMT’s volunteered their time for the campaign.

The total amount raised was $7,571.00 which equals about $1.24 per Bethel resident.

The funds raised from “Fill the Boot” helps to provide comprehensive health care services to families served by MDA in the state. It also helps to fund vital research in the search for treatments and cures.
