A man is facing assault charges after allegedly threatening three women with a gun and barricading himself in a home. Police responded to a report of a disturbance on 7th avenue just before 6 p.m. on October 29th.

Andre Achee is a Bethel Police Lieutenant.

“The boyfriend was highly intoxicated and threatened several members of the household with a loaded firearm. He ordered them to leave the house, loaded up a firearm and pointed it at them,” said Achee.

The man was identified as John Lloyd Japhet. The women left the home and had a cab driver call 911. Police called in additional forces, blocked off the street, and evacuated neighboring homes. Officers tried to contact Japhet by phone and blasting a loudspeaker, but were unable to do so.

“After the initial call, officers did make forced entry into the residence and contacted John Japhet in the rear bedroom of the residence and took him into custody without any further incident,” said Achee.

John Lloyd Japhet is facing 3 charges of 3rd degree assault, one 4th degree assault charge, and one count of 4th degree weapons misconduct.
