Bethel tops Seward to advance to state semi-finals

by Shane Iverson on March 21, 2013

The Bethel Warriors advanced to the semi-finals this morning in the 3A Boys Alaska State Basketball Tournament with a win over the Seward Seahawks 42-32. The Warriors earned a narrow 10-9 lead in the first quarter and never lost it.

Bethel’s scoring effort was led by senior Brett Smith with 10 points, and junior Ito Naneng with 16 points. Senior Carli Romer was also back on the court after missing the Western Conference Final two weeks ago with a sprained ankle. Romer had 7 points against the Seahawks including Bethel’s first 3-pointer to stop the Seahawks in the 3rd quarter as they began to close the gap.

It was the Warrior defense that won the game though, as Bethel’s speed and relentless pressure forced Seward turnovers for much of the contest.

The Warriors now move forward and will take on Grace Christian or Monoroe Catholic tomorrow (fri) night at 7pm.

You can catch that game right on KYUK 64OAM.
