Bethel Warrior wrestlers win team title at ACS tournament

The Bethel Warrior wrestlers took the team title this weekend at the ACS invitational in Anchorage. They did that with just one individual champion, but they advanced a total of four wrestlers in the final match and tallied major team points. Bethel’s Josh Mendenhall took the gold at 132, by defeating Napaskiak’s Jerome Williams.

In the finals with silver medals were Tristan Evan at 98, Gage Hoffman at 113, Avery Coplin in the 138 pound class.

Other medal winners include 3rd place finishes by Tecumseh Hensley at 106, Avery Chiklak at 120, plus Carlie McIntyre at 126, and Scott Carpenter in the 195 pound class.

In the team competition, Bethel won with 240 pounds, followed by 2nd place Koztebue with 224. Nome and Soldotna Skyview both had 163 points, while Valdez took the 5th place with 157 points. A total of 42 teams from all corners of the state competed.
