The Bethel Warrior wrestling team split up over the weekend, sending several athletes to Barrow and four wrestlers to Houston.

Two wrestlers in Houston earned individual titles. At 113, Gage Hoffman took the gold and Carlie McIntyre won at 126. The other two brought in silver medals: Avery Coplin took second at 138, as well as Brandon Oulton at 152. With just four wrestlers, Bethel earned a 7th place finish. Valdez won the team competition.

10 wrestlers from Bethel took part in in a dual meet style tournament Friday in Barrow. They fell to Kotzebue 36-34 in the first competition. They then lost to both Barrow and Nome. There were not wrestlers in all weight classes and several matches were double forfeits.

In Saturday’s individual action, two wrestlers won their weight classes by beating Barrow wrestlers in the finals. Tecumseh Hensley won at 113 and Patrick Francisco took first at 182. 2 wrestlers earned silver medals. Those were Brandon Evan at 126 and Kane Gillian at 220 pounds. Jayvin Williams added a 3rd place finish at 126.

Thursday’s competition in Barrow included mix and match wrestling with several weight classes combined.
