Bethel Police say a body washed up near Bethel Wednesday.
Acting Police Chief, Andre Achee, says police got a call reporting that the body had floated up onto a beach near a fish camp on an island across from Bethel just after 9pm.
“We discovered human remains, human remains that appears to be a middle-aged male that we can tell has been in the water for a while. And we processed the area. Conducted our investigation, interviewed everyone that was on the scene there. It was discovered that the body just washed up within the hour of them calling us up, cause prior to that there were kids swimming in that area. So the adults that discovered the remains, secured the remains so they didn’t float away and then contacted us,” said Achee.
Achee says there were no obvious signs of foul play. The body was transported to the State Medical Examiners office for identification and to determine the cause of death. Achee says he hopes to have an I-D sometime next week.
