Boney and Laraux again team up in Iron Dog

Two Bethel men are taking their second shot at the Iron Dog, a 2,000 mile snow machine race. Steven Boney and Arthur “Gux” Laraux will be Team 19 again this year, competing against 41 other teams in the Pro Class category.

The Iron Dog race begins Sunday in Wasilla. The route will take racers from Wassilla, then on to Nome and finishes in Fairbanks for a total of 2,031 miles.

Boney and Laraux will be driving Yamahas FX Nytro XTX 1049cc in the race this year.

In 2012, their rookie year, they competed against 31 teams taking in 14th place. They finished with an elapsed time of 57 hours, 1 minute and 19 seconds.

Former Bethel resident, Vince Salzbrun, is taking his first shot at the the Iron Dog this year. He’s partnering with Michael Williams of Anchorage to make up Team 28. Salzbrun is racing a Ski-Doo MX Z X 600cc. Vince is the son of Shorty and Sophie Salzbrun of Bethel.

This year’s purse is $210,500.
