Booze bound for Hooper Bay seized

by Angela Denning-Barnes on October 15, 2012

Two dozen bottles of booze were intercepted on the way to Hooper Bay, according to a report by local drug enforcement troopers. On Oct. 13, the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team (WAANT) noticed two suspicious freight packages that were addressed to Hooper Bay.

Inside the packages, they found 24 bottles of hard liquor and seized them.

WAANT officers identified a suspect and interviewed the person. They are forwarding charges of felony importation to the District Attorney’s office. The suspect’s name has not been released because the charges are pending.

Hooper Bay is a local option community whose residents voted to ban the sale and importation of alcohol.
