The Bethel Regional High School basketball teams competed in the Valdez Elks Tournament this past weekend.

Friday the BRHS boy’s took on the Valdez Buccaneers.

The Warriors fought hard in a close game. Bethel took the lead briefly in the second quarter, 24-20, but a furious charge by the Buccaneers put them up 28-24 at the break.

The second half was much of the same with both teams trading buckets. Valdez would squeak out the win, 50-45.

Theodore Naneng led the warriors in scoring putting up 21 points; Carlie Romer scored 12 points as well.

The girls came out strong Friday against the Nikiski Lady Bulldogs. They took an early lead in the first quarter and would keep up the balanced attack throughout the game.

Things got closer in the third quarter, with both teams stepping up the defensive intensity. But, Bethel would go on to win 45-37.

Kira Polk led the lady warriors with 15 points, Mary Dyment had 12, and Rianna Joseph, Kayla Williams, and Rebecca Brink all had six points a piece.

Saturday night against Seward, the boys lost a heartbreaker.

In the first quarter the warriors were up 12 – 8, but saw their lead diminish by halftime.

BRHS would retake the lead in the third quarter 38 – 33, but Seward came on strong in the fourth quarter to take the game 55-47 over the warriors.

Theodore Naneng led BRHS with 15 points, Carlie Romer had 12 and John Olson and Taylor Hoffman 8 points each.

Saturday the Lady Warriors took on the Seward Lady Seahawks. Seward came on strong with good scoring efforts and solid defense. They went up early on the Lady Warriors and held a fifteen-point halftime lead.

It was much of the same in the second half, as BRHS’s Mary Dyment was still not 100% after an injury earlier in the season.

The Lady warriors fell 33-47 to Seward.

Kira Polk scored 11 points; Christina McElwee added eight and Rianna Joseph had five points.
