The Y-K Delta’s varsity cross country runners were in Bethel over the weekend. They ran a 5k course on Saturday at Bethel’s sand pit.
38 runners from Akiachak, Newtok, Tuntutuliak, Oscarville, BRHS and the Kuskokwim Learning Academy ran a 5 K course, or three-point-one miles at the Bethel sand pit.
Of the 27 high school boys, Akiachak Runner, Terrence Nose came in first with a winning time of 22-minutes and five seconds. Avery Coplin from BRHS came in second, 27-second later, Newtok’s John Kassayulie came in third 17-seconds after Coplin. Three runners from Akiachak placed in the top five.
Eleven girls competed against each other; they were mostly from BRHS, with one runner each from Akiachak, and Newtok. Haley O’Brien of BRHS won the meet on the girls side, with a time of 25-minutes and 56 seconds, Kate McWilliams from BRHS also, was right behind her for second place, Rena Nose of Akiachak came in third.
