BRHS Warriors cap off regular season at home with a big win from the boys, and a close loss from the girls

by Shore on March 2, 2014

Saturday night was senior night at Bethel Regional High School, and following Saturday night’s games it’s on to the post-season for both BRHS varsity basketball squads.

The boys varsity squad opened the night against the 2-A squad from Unalakleet. The Warriors got off to a sluggish start, as they have in many games this season, and like many of those games the Warriors would eventually find their groove. The first quarter ended with Bethel up by just 2 points, 12 to 10. By the end of the second quarter it was quite apparent what was to become of the match-up with Bethel taking a 13-point lead into the locker room. The second-half was no friend to Unalakleet as Bethel would continue sharp-shooting from all over the floor, and would eventually finish the game with a whooping 82 points, to go on to a 82-47 victory in their final home game of the season. Theodore Naneng led all scorers with 31-points.

The Lady Warriors were featured in the night-cap on Saturday against a tough Unalakleet squad. The game played out to be a defensive battle as just 73 total points would be scored before the final buzzer would sound. Bethel held a 19 to 16 lead at the half, but would not be able to hold onto that before the final buzzer would sound. Bethel had several opportunities to tie the game late in the fourth quarter, but were unable to convert when it mattered most. Unalakleet would go on to win 38 to 35. Marina Crow lead Bethel scorers with 10 points.

Both squads head to Anchorage for the Western Conference tournament to be played at Dimond High School on March 6, 7, and 8. KYUK will have live coverage of those games on 640-AM.
