The Warriors took first place at the Anchorage Christian School Lime Solar Invitational or ACS beating out squads from Kotzebue, Nome and Dillingham.

There were a total of 348 wrestlers from 44 different teams, with over 600 matches wrestled in two days. Seven wrestlers from BRHS placed in the top three in their respective weight classes.

Warriors coach Darren Lieb said he is pleased with his team’s performance.

“You know I think we surprised a lot of coaches out there the way we wrestled. Even a couple of kids surprised me the way they came out,” he said.

Many seniors from last year’s state champion team are now gone, but Lieb has confidence in the current team.

“As far as mid-season, now I guess you can definitely say that we’re probably the team to beat as far as state goes.”

Next up is the Bethel Invitational Tournament at BRHS. It runs from thisThursday evening through Saturday evening.
