BSAR warns hunters to check weather

Those planning on hitting the trail this coming weekend should watch for weather patterns before heading out. That’s an advisory coming from Bethel Search and Rescue. There is a winter storm warning in the region.

The volunteer organization is asking Y-K Delta residents who are planning to go caribou or moose hunting to pay close attention to the weather forecast, which is calling for high winds and snow in some areas. There is a winter storm warning for the Lower Yukon River area, in effect from midnight tonight to 6 PM Saturday.

Snow and blowing snow may cause local blizzard conditions at times with visibility near zero. Freezing rain may mix with the snow at times on Saturday. Snow and wind are predicted for the Kuskokwim Delta as well.
