The Calista Cultural Bearer award goes to artist Edna Patgulria Mathlaw of Nunivak Island. Mathlaw creates kuspuks, skin sewn parkas, and makes grass baskets.
The Axel C. Johnson Distinguished Shareholder award goes to Marshall’s Melanie Coffee, the woman who walked nearly a mile after her plane crashed to seek help for the victims. The two communities most impacted in the crash, St. Mary’s and Mountain Village receive the Raymond Christiansen Community Service award.
Youth Educator of the year goes to Muriel Amos of Mekoryuk. She’s taught 26 years and assisted in writing a Cup’ig dictionary.
The business of the year is the Yukon Delta Fisheries Development Association. The recipients will be honored at the 2014 annual meeting in Kalskag, July 12th. The winners were nominated by shareholders and descendants.
