The Regional Native Corporation, Calista, will hold it’s annual shareholder’s meeting in Bethel this fall. To help shareholders prepare, representatives from the corporation sat down for an hour-long call in show here at KYUK radio. Sophie Evan hosted the show and tells us more.

The shareholder’s meeting is scheduled for September 28th. Calista recently mailed out their 2012 annual report to shareholders, with a supplemental insert entirely in Yup’ik and English. The guide to the report, “understanding Calista’s financial statements” was a first for shareholders. It was done in both Yupik and English and was in response to requests from shareholders during last year’s annual meeting in Goodnews Bay.
Spokesman for Calista, Thom Leonard, says shareholders also asked that the guide be posted on Calista’s website, which Leonard says they have done. It can now be accessed at www.calistacorp.com.
Leonard says Calista’s Shareholder Relation’s Committee, and C-E-O, Andrew Guy, have traveled to five villages giving updates on Calista, and added that they plan to travel to more villages after the annual meeting here in Bethel.
The Shareholder Relation’s Committee visits up to 15-villages each year.
There are three seats open on the Board of Directors. Any qualified shareholder wanting to run for Administrative Units 4, 5, and 6, have until Friday, July 12th, at 5 pm to return the Nominee Disclosure Questionnaire and Nominee Agreement form.
The nomination process is still open for the special recognition of shareholder awards. The categories are as follows;
Calista Culture Bearer, Axel C. Johnson Distinguished Shareholder
Calista Elder of the Year, Raymond C. Christiansen Community Service Award, Calista Youth/Educator of the Year
Calista Business of the Year
Completed nomination forms should be submitted by Friday, July 12th as well.
The next Calista call in show is scheduled for July 26th. For KYUK news, I’m Sophie Evan.
