There were thirteen prize winners this Wednesday morning in KYUK’s Grand Prize Drawing and the most fortunate of them all were Melanie Fredericks and Miriam Ohman, both of Bethel. Ohman won a round trip ticket on Alaska Air while Fredericks won 25,000 Alaska Air miles.

KYUK will be traveling to cover a Kwethluk Kings and Lady Kings basketball game this season after the village ran away with KYUK’s first ever Village Showdown Title, more than doubling the next closest village.
When pledging wrapped up Tuesday night Kwethluk had totaled $1,435 from seventeen contributors, one of which was the village corporation. Following them was Toksook Bay who musterd $715 in pledging from twelve contributors. Some last minute pledging from Atmautluak pushed the tundra village into third place with $630 from just four generous individuals.

Margo Mochin won the final Hot Drawing item of KYUK’s Fall Fundraiser; a $100 gift certificate from Swanson’s. Other winners in KYUK’s Hot Drawing included Brandi Poe who won a $150 gift certificate from Casey’s Carpet and Michael Meeks who won an uluaq crafted by KYUK Board member Moses Tulim.
The Hot Drawing concluded KYUK’s effort to raise vital revenue for station operations. When the official pledging ended the total was at $25,465 which a modern record for our public radio station.
KYUK will announce the winners of the Village Showdown and draw for the grand prize items Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m.

Kwethluk Incorporated is one of many in Kwethluk throwing their support behind KYUK and their own high school basketball team during KYUK Village Showdown. Kwethluk moved into the top spot today for the first time. The village that pledges the most by the end of the day today, Tuesday, will win a live KYUK broadcast of their high school basketball team. With four days left in the annual Fall Fundraiser KYUK members have pushed the public radio station over it’s fundraising goal of $20,000. This year’s goal was the most ambitious in over well over two decades. KYUK’s Radio Director Shane Iverson says achieving the lofty goal proves Y/K Delta residents value their public radio station. “We’re deeply humbled by all the giving.
