City of Bethel Wins $740,549 Rasmuson Grant

Rasmuson logoThe Rasmuson Foundation is awarding the City of Bethel $740,549 dollars to purchase furniture, fixtures and equipment for the Yukon-Kuskokwim Regional Aquatic Health and Safety Center.

The award was announced July 1st. The center is tentatively scheduled to open November 1st. It’s been in the works for years and costs around 24.5 million to build.

It contains a six-lane swimming pool with a separate slide area and kiddie pool as well as a hot tub. It also has a fitness room with exercise equipment and a workout room for classes.

The grant will be used to purchase a pool cover and a scoreboard, among other things. A 196,969-dollar grant from Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation will fund exercise equipment. The building itself was built with a grant from the State of Alaska.
