Council seeks public input on Bethel judgeship

After three withdrew, just three applicants are left vying for the vacant superior court judgeship at the Bethel Courthouse. The Alaska Judicial Council is holding a public hearing in Bethel, October 31 for people wanting to comment on the applicants before the council decides whether to send any of them to the Governor for final approval.

The Alaska Judicial Council is an independent citizens’ commission created by the Alaska Constitution. The council will forward who it believes is the most qualified candidate or candidates to the Governor, who will then make the final appointment.

On Monday at the Bethel Courhouse, the Council will hold a hearing on the qualifications of the applicants and then allow public comments at 11:45 a.m.

The 3 applicants are:
Angela Greene of Nome
Chuck Ray of Anchorage
Matthew Widmer of Anchorage
