The Managing editor of the Alaska Dispatch News confirmed today that the news organization is setting up a full-time news bureau in Bethel to cover Western Alaska and announced the reporter who will staff the bureau.
David Hulen made the announcement on twitter and added that reporter Lisa Demer will be heading out to Bethel soon.
The online news outlet, Alaska Dispatch, bought the Anchorage Daily News from McClatchy Newspapers for 34-million dollars in April. The organization re-named itself, ‘Alaska Dispatch News’ in July.
At a July event for advertisers in Anchorage, Dispatch executives talked about Bethel being the first of several bureaus in remote Alaska and that Nome and Barrow would follow. KYUK contacted ADN officials at that time, but they said that they were not yet ready to release more information.
The tweet was the first mention of the reporter that would staff the bureau.
