The Bethel Council on the Arts has a lot of activities going on today and through out the weekend. One of the major events is the annual Bethel Dog Show which happens this Sunday.
Reyne Athanas is the Cultural Center coordinator and is helping coordinate the dog show again this year:
cut 1 “ this Sunday the 17th is the 9th annual Bethel dog show, and it all started as a little event with people who love dogs and just kept developing it, and we all like the Westminster dog show we thought Bethel ought to have one.” :18Athanas went on the say that there will be two main categories in the dog show, the breed category and the non-breed category: or what’s called the Delta Mix. Any mutt or unknown breed can enter into the Delta Mix category. The breed category includes sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy, herding, and non-sporting.
Athanas says the best of show canine will be selected in addition to the various breed categories.
Cut 2 “then we have a fun section and that’s for the best tail wager, the best vocal performance, the most adorable, best costume, best trick, and the most obedient.” :12
Trophies and ribbons will be awarded. Athanas says the event has grown over the years and draws between to 60 and 70 dogs and attracts about 200-spectators.
Cut 3 “ lots of volunteers come and help with the judging and registering and it’s just a fun time.” :06
The 9th annual dog show is this Sunday at the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the show starts at 2 p.m.
