Drugs thrown over fence at jail seized

by Melvin Pavilla on June 21, 2013

Troopers with the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team are investigating a case of marijuana being thrown over a fence at the Bethel jail to reach inmates on the other side.

Correctional officers found the drugs while conducting a grounds search on June 14 at the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center.

Someone had thrown two rubber gloves filled with marijuana, tobacco, cigarettes and rolling paper over the fencing that encloses the facility.

Video was obtained from the jail which allegedly shows the subject tossing the gloves over the fence. Later, a grocery bag was recovered in the same area which contained paperwork that identifies a suspect.

Troopers are withholding the name as they continue to investigate.
