Fire burns building near Bethel half-way house

by Angela Denning-Barnes on November 1, 2011

A fire consumed a building in Bethel near the Tundra Center, a minimum security jail located on Ridgecrest Road. The burning building was located on 6th avenue adjacent to the Tundra Center. It is believed that the building is a former residence which has been used in recent years as a storage building by the center.

Fire fighters and police responded to the area around noon today (Tuesday).

Bethel fire fighters worked on the fire which produced a large amount of smoke that filled the downtown area in the early afternoon. The building appears to be a total loss.

No injuries have been reported.

The Bethel fire department was still gathering information about the fire by the posting of this story.

Tundra Center would not comment on the fire. The Supervisor said inquiries had to go through their media center located in Florida, which runs on Eastern time.
