Fire destroys home in Chuathbaluk

A fire destroyed a home in Chuathbuluk early this morning, but no one was hurt, according to Lisa Seyereisen, the tribal administrator for Chuathbaluk.

“There were no injuries, everyone who lives in the house has been accounted for and everyone in the village has been accounted for,” said Seyereisen.

The structure was a BIA house built in the old village. Seyereisen, says that the fire completely destroyed the home. The blaze started at about 430 a.m.

“We found out about the fire pretty much right away, but we don’t have any response capabilities here within the village,” said Seyereisen.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. This is Chuathbaluk’s second house fire in less than a month. A similar house nearby burnt on Christmas Eve. The community will be seeking donations for the family and is hoping to team up with the Red Cross.
