Sixty-six teams will start the ceremonial Iditarod Sled Dog Race Saturday with an 11-mile run through Anchorage. Then Sunday, 50 miles to the North in Willow, the restart happens.

There are four mushers from the Y-K Delta racing. Pete Kaiser of Bethel will be leaving in 10th position, Mike Williams Sr. of Akiak in 35th, Michael Williams Jr. of Akiak in 46th position, and Richie Diehl of Aniak in 65th place.

Diehl is the only rookie of the four.

In 2012, Pete Kaiser took 5th place and Mike Williams Jr. took 8th place. Mike Williams Sr. last ran the race in 2009. This will be his 15th Iditarod.

Stay tuned to KYUK news next week as we hear from the local mushers about their race strategies. For more information on Pete Kaiser’s Iditarod, you can visit his website: Kaiserracing
