Free kids clothing giveaway in Bethel

by Angela Denning-Barnes on September 27, 2012

Forty-eight boxes of donated kids clothing from Anchorage are being given away for free at the Mikelnguut Elitnaurviat (M.E.) Elementary School Friday afternoon. For the fifth year in a row, M.E. school staff and Donlin Gold workers in Anchorage have sponsored the event.

The donations include clothing, outer wear, and shoes. They come from Anchorage families who donate them to their schools and from the schools’ lost and found. Donlin Gold workers then sort and launder them and ship them out to Bethel. Then M.E. and Donlin staff distribute the items to Bethel students and their families.

This year, that will happen Friday, Sept. 28, from 4 to 5 p.m. at M.E. Elementary School in Bethel.

Mary Sattler, Donlin Gold Manager of Community Development and Sustainability, says “it is our hope that the people who really need the items, will be able to get them.”
