30-year old Joseph Merritt of Goodnews Bay was indicted on an attempted murder charge for injuring a woman so badly she needed to be medevaced.
The Goodnews Bay Village Public Safety Officer asked for help from the Alaska State Troopers after arresting Merritt on Wednesday, July 25th. Troopers say further investigation showed that Merritt has a long rap sheet of violence dating back to February of 2010.
Troopers report that Merritt’s female victim had to be medevaced to the hospital here in Bethel for medical treatment the next day, July 26th.
A grand jury in Bethel Wednesday indicted Merritt on four felony charges, including: attempted murder, and assault in the first, second, and third degrees. Troopers say that additional felony charges are pending.
Merrit is held on $500,000 bail, and a court approved third party custodian.
