Governor’s budget includes school money for Kwethluk, small Y-K Delta projects

Governor Parnell promised fiscal restraint in his budget for next year and that’s what he delivered. The capital budget does not have many big ticket projects for the YK-Delta. The largest line item is for 31 million dollars to put towards replacing the school in Kwethluk.

Tuntutuliak and Kwigillingok get over $700,000 dollars for power projects. There’s 500 thousand dollars going to the Bethel Troopers for office improvement and hangar work. He includes 250 thousand in the budget for deferred maintenance at the jail in Bethel.

$25,000 dollars goes to maintenance at the Kipnuk armory. Federal airport money makes up a big chunk of the area’s projects. There are 18 million dollars budgeted for airport work in Kwigillingok, and $1.8 million for Aniak.

Pilot Station gets 4.3 million in federal funds for their airport relocation. Hooper Bay will receive 8.5 million federal dollars for airport work and a heavy equipment building.

This is just the very first draft of the budget. Legislators will add items when the legislature convenes. They will go to work on January 21st of next year.
