Polls are open today in Bethel from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at two locations, the Long House Hotel and the Cultural Center. There are two items on the municipal ballots, including open city council seats and a proposition.
There are three candidates running for three open seats. They are Sharon Sigmon and incumbents Joseph Klejka and Eric Whitney. The seats are for two year terms.
The second item on the ballot is a proposition on APOC. It’s a proposal for the city to opt out of the Alaska Public Offices Commission. It requires elected officials to fill out a 14-page form, disclosing personal financial information. Its purpose is to expose any possible conflicts of interest. The city says they can come up with their own disclosure rules. Over one hundred communities in Alaska have opted out.
Also happening today is the Bethel Advisory School Board (ASB) election. There are two, three year term seats up for grabs, those of Jerry Dominick and Carol Ann Williard.
