by Ben Matheson on May 8, 2014

The community of Kipnuk will receive nearly $3 million for a new power plant. The USDA’s High Energy Cost Grant program announced the money today. Kipnuk’s new power plan will produce energy derived from wind, heat and diesel power. The Denali Commission also received $2.3 million for energy projects in rural Alaska.

Recipients in the USDA’s program use funds to improve energy service in communities where the average residential cost for home energy is more than 275 percent of the national average.
