KTUU and GCI reach an agreement

After months of negotiating, GCI and KTUU have announced that they have come to an agreement that restores NBC programming to Bethel and eight other rural community hubs. Programming should be restored no later than 1 p.m. today.

Besides Bethel, the rural markets include Barrow, Cordova, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Kuparuk, Nome, BP North Slope and Valdez.

In a written statement, Andy Macleod, President and Manager of KTUU, said, “We are glad rural Alaskans will see the Olympics on KTUU-TV.”

They say Channel 2 is the only Alaska-based television news organization with local reporters at the games.

GCI’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, Paul Landes, said, “We thank our customers in rural Alaska for their patience as we sought to create a fair, comprehensive, long-term agreement.”
