The winner is not Helen Pollock of Bethel as we announced earlier. It’s actually Cezary Maczinski of Bethel. Event sponsor, Bethel Community Services Foundation, said they were in error when they announced the winner this morning because Pollock’s guess fell after the official time and the rules say it has to be the closest guess before. The tripod officially moved at 7:42 p.m. May 28 and Maczinski guessed 6:31 p.m. He wins $6,200 which is half of the total pot. Another $6,200 will go to Bethel Regional High School for student activities. Even though breakup was late this year, there were still plenty of guesses. There were 50 ice classic entries on the 28th alone. Organizers say the annual Breakup Bash will start this evening at 5 p.m. on the Bethel river front. There will be free hotdogs and live music.
