Kuskowim 300 to follow river trail inbound to Kalskag

by Ben Matheson on January 18, 2014

riverThe Kuskokwim 300 will not re-route the trail back across the Whitefish trail. The race committee was considering skipping the river trail from Aniak to Kalskag and instead retracing the the trail mushers are on to Aniak. Mushers arrived in Kalskag last night wet and exhausted from significant water on the river ice. That prompted a discussion of whether to avoid the river in favor of the Whitefish Lake trail. The race committee decided today to stick to the original plan. The front pack of K300 racers are on the 50-plus mile trail to Aniak as of early Saturday afternoon.
