Kwethluk claims first Village Showdown Title

by Shane Iverson on October 16, 2013

KYUK will be traveling to cover a Kwethluk Kings and Lady Kings basketball game this season after the village ran away with KYUK’s first ever Village Showdown Title, more than doubling the next closest village.

When pledging wrapped up Tuesday night Kwethluk had totaled $1,435 from seventeen contributors, one of which was the village corporation.  Following them was Toksook Bay who musterd $715 in pledging from twelve contributors.  Some last minute pledging from Atmautluak pushed the tundra village into third place with $630 from just four generous individuals.

Village Showdown Final Results
1 KWETHLUK $1,435
2 TOKSOOK BAY $715
3 ATMAUTLUAK $630
4 KASIGLUK $385
5 NUNAPITCHUK $260
6 ANIAK $200
7 AKIACHAK $125
8 MT. VILLAGE $120
9 AKIAK $95
10 TUNTUTULIAK $65
11 KWIGILLINGOK $50
12 LOWER KALSKAG $50
13 TULUKSAK $40
14 MARSHALL $25
15 QUINHAGAK $25

Kwethluk’s  high school basketball teams can now decide when and where they want KYUK to provide the coverage. It could be a home tournament or even an away tournament so fans back home can catch the action. The game must be in the Y/K Delta.

If KYUK has the resources we will also travel to additional village tournaments for second place Toksook  Bay and third place Kasigluk.

We recognize money can be tight right now and we sincerely appreciate support from all the Y/K Delta communities.
